At Newcastle we need your assistance!! To prevent communicable diseases from being spread to others, here are some guidelines to help you as a parent/guardian determine when your child(ren) should stay home. PLEASE keep your child(ren) at home if he/she has ANY of the following symptoms:

  1. Fever ~ 100 degrees F. or more orally. Temperature should remain normal 24 hours before returning to school. If your child has a temperature in the morning of 100 degrees F. or more please do not give them a fever reducer and send them to school.
  2. Diarrhea ~     more than one episode in a 24 hour period.
  3. Vomiting ~ within the past 24 hours (not just the next day).
  4. Rash ~ body rashes not associated with diapering, heat or allergic reactions to medications.
  5. Drainage from the eye ~ thick mucus and/or pus draining from the eye; eye crusted and difficult to open.
  6. Sore throat ~ especially if associated with fever or swollen glands.
  7. Nasal Discharge ~ if your child's mucus has a color and is accompanied by a fever and/or other symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, drowsiness and general signs of not feeling well, your child may be contagious and should remain home until the symptoms subside.
  8. Appearance ~ unusually tired, pale, lack of appetite, difficult to wake, confused or irritable.
  9. Lice ~ any signs or questionable signs in the hair follicle on the head.

The most important thing you can do to prevent illness is for you and your child to wash their hands often. **Remember to keep the school updated with new emergency and work numbers in case your child becomes ill at school. If your child is going to be absent, please be sure to call the attendance line each day they will not be attending school at 425-837-5800, and press options 1.**
