Washington
 Timeline

 

Task:  

To research a particular event in Washington’s timeline, write an expository summary of the historical occasion and illustrate a scene of the event.

 

Procedures:

Choose your event from the list provided.
 

Research your event
Due February 8th

Using books from the school and/or public library, encyclopedias and the Internet (www.google.com, http://www.historylink.org etc.) research your event recording important details on your research guide. You will use your notes to help you write your summary of the event.

Summary
Due February 15th

In two paragraphs, write a summary of the event.  You may print or use cursive, but it must be neat, have correct spelling and punctuation and be brought to school on time so that you may type it.  

Your summary should include (topic sentence, details and conclusion sentence on):

  •  the name of the event and an overview of the event describing the people or populations involved
  •  the importance to Washington State history (how did it change/alter/impact Washington?)

 

Illustrate your event
Due February 29th

Using construction paper (some will be supplied at school), create a two-dimensional illustration of your event.  You may cut or tear the paper, but not use any writing utensils.  This is a “NO White” rule project, unless it is intentional.  Illustrations must be completed in the horizontal orientation.

Present your event:
March 6th & 7th

Be prepared to present your illustration and summary to the class.

 It reflects planning and thoughtfulness in portraying the event. 

The Illustration is included but additional planning and thought was needed in portraying the event.

 -and/or-

 The illustration does not accurately portray the event. 

The illustration is incomplete and/or does not follow the guidelines given.

Presentation:

Facial expressions and body language generate a strong interest and enthusiasm about the topic in others.

Facial expressions and body language sometimes generate a strong interest and enthusiasm about the topic in others.

Facial expressions and body language are used to try to generate enthusiasm, but don’t seem genuine.

Very little use of facial expressions or body language. Did not generate much interest in topic being presented.
