Magnetic Letters |

*Use your refrigerator, cookie sheet, or magnetic board and purchase some magnetic letters to try these activities with your child. |
| * Take letters and spell a word family, such as ‘cat’. Have your child replace the first letter of the word with another to form additional rhyming words, such as ‘bat, hat, sat, chat, etc.’ | *Have child spell their name with magnetic letters on. Then ask child to replace the beginning sound of their name with a new sound. (For example , Tyler may change his name to Byler, Pyler, Myler, etc.) |

For a greater challenge, ask students to replace the ending sound of their name with a new sound. (For example, Tyler could become Tylen, Tylo, Tyleb. |
*Write sentences or song lyrics on strips of paper or index cards. Place magnetic tape to the backs and have your child sequence the sentences as they read and/ or sing. |

*Practice your child’s spelling words using magnetic letters. |
*The Making Words activity on this site, may be done with magnetic letters as well. |
