Reading
Reading is key to your child's success in school and is integrated throughout our school day. McGraw Hill is our district adopted reading program. Students receive guided reading instruction in small groups with books chosen at their developmental level as well as whole group instruction. Students are working on strategies to solve unknown words, comprehension, reading with fluency and expression, and reading an increasing number of sight words.
Reading at home is a key to your child's success in reading. Please set aside time every night to read to your child, or have him/her read to you. A mixture of both will guide your child to success.
Writing
Writing is also integrated throughout our school day. The fabulous authors of room 143 are continuing to sound out words phonetically and use their best-guess spelling to develop their thoughts on paper. They are learning the writing process, adding details to their stories, and applying appropriate conventions in their writing.
