Traverse ; (tra-vurse')
1. To
move across; cross over; 2. To move back and forth over a place or
wall,
cross and re-cross.
Thanks to
the overwhelming support from Apollo Elementary parents two years
ago,
Apollo joined Endeavor Elementary, Challenger Elementary, and
Beaver Lake Middle
School as the pioneers for bringing this
exciting learning tool to our students in the Issaquah School
District. Thanks to Principal Christy Otley, I am excited to begin our
educational journey at Newcastle with a traverse climbing wall
installed in
August, 2004.
Indoor rock climbing is
one of the most innovative physical activities today. It is a great
way to develop and enhance physical, social and emotional skills.
Traverse wall climbing
is a rewarding and challenging activity for
many students, not just natural athletes.
Many physical education
teachers who have had experience with climbing walls agree that
climbing attracts a wide variety of students, including those who do
not normally like to
participate in physical education classes.
Climbing is an
inventive way to achieve the national and state fitness and health standards as well
as our own Issaquah Essential Learning goals.
