Newcastle Traffic Procedures

This letter is intended to clarify our morning and afternoon traffic procedures.  I appreciate your understanding and support that student safety is our number one priority.

 MORNING PROCEDURES:

All students are to meet under the covered area in the morning.  The classroom numbers are painted on the asphalt so students know where they are to line up.  Children are not to be on campus before 9:05/8:50 Wed.  There is not any supervision prior to those times.  In addition, there is not any supervision in the building – teachers are not always in their classrooms.  It is not safe to have students in the halls unsupervised.  This is why all students need to meet in the covered area, where we have EA’s supervising.

Bus Riders:

As soon as students exit off the bus, they go immediately to their lines.

Walkers:

Not to be on campus before 9:05/8:50.  As soon as they arrive, they are to be in their lines.

Parent Drop-Off:

All parent drop offs are to take place in the parking lot up by the main doors, NOT on the STREET.  This is extremely dangerous for students and those trying to use the crosswalk.  Signs are posted that it is a “NO Stopping” spot during these hours.  Parents are to pull up along the sidewalk at the entrance of the building, and have their child get out of the car quickly so traffic can continue.  Students can then walk to the back of the building or wait in the front of the building with the EA and she will walk them around back.

AFTERNOON PROCEDURES:

Bus Riders:

Students who are riding a bus get on their bus as soon as it arrives.

Walkers:

Walkers are to have a meeting spot if they are walking with an adult or group of friends.  This way no one is left behind.  Please make sure everyone knows their meeting spot before they arrive in the morning.

Parent Pick-Ups:

Please be patient.  School is dismissed at 3:38/1:15.  Please wait in your car.  Students are to stand in front of the building and wait until they see their car.  As student get in the car, then traffic can move forward.  We do not want students walking all the way down the sidewalk as the EA cannot see that far.  We want to make sure that students are getting in the correct car.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
