Study Coaches Needed
Can you spare an hour a week to help a Newcastle student? If so, our new Study Coach program needs you! Study Coaches are volunteers who work with students to provide extra academic support in areas such as reading, writing and math. Don't worry if you feel you don't have the skills because you will receive training, materials and support! A study Coach can be a mom, dad, grandparent, aunt, uncle or interested community member. Being a Study Coach is a rewarding way to share your time and talents!
Playground Buddies
Do you have some free time at lunch? The school would like to start a new program called "Playground Buddies". To help monitor the large playground during lunch, two added adults are needed daily from 11:55 - 1:05. This will allow the kids to fully use all parts of the playground (such as the quiet area) while keeping the playground safe and enjoyable for all. This is an opportunity for anyone in the community -- moms, dads, grandparents, -- to enjoy some youthful energy and help out the school! Training will be provided, so you can learn the playground rules, recess game rules and the Educational Assistants (EA) will always be on the playground as well. If you are interested in being a Playground Buddy, please e-mail Betsy Pendleton at Bpen22@aol.com with the number of days per week or month you would be interested in helping and which days you are available. Also, let us know if you would be willing to coordinate the schedule for the Playground Buddies.
