| Anti-virus Software: Software that blocks malicious software from
performing it's function. |
| Appz: Software that is illegally aquired. |
| Avatar: A small picture or graphic used to represent a person in a
bulletin board, or social network, or forum, or messaging application. |
| BitTorrent: File sharing program that downloads as you upload. |
| BLOG: A nickname for an online journal. They are usually created by
and individual for discussing hobbies, interests or just their daily
life. They are also being used by corporation to advertise and inform
their customers about their organizations and their products. Some
bloggers are able to make a profit from their sites. Read more about it

| Blogger: Someone that has a blog and makes regular entries. |
| Content Filters: Software that blocks certain websites or
applications based on the user's specifications. |
| Cyber Bullying: When someone uses electronic media (email, internet,
video, text messaging) to intimidate, Make Fun Of or bully another
individual. |
| E-mail: Electronic Mail. Messages are sent and received via the
internet. |
| FaceBook: A Social network where subscribers must be associated by a
school |
| Flame: To insult someone electronically. |
| Forum: Also known as bulletin Boards. This is a place were users can
register and then leave messages for others and also read information on
the forum topic. |
| IM: Acronym for Instant Messager. Real-time chat program that allows
users to send messages back and forth with others on the same messaging
system that they have added to their addres books. AOL, MSN and Yahoo
are a few of the companies with instant messaging systems. |
| Internet: A worldwide, publicly accessible series of interconnected
computer networks that transmit
data.

| MySpace: A social networking site were registered users can blog
about their selves, friends and interests and share information with
friends or the world. They can also chat in real-time. |
| Peer to Peer Sharing Software: Software such as Kuzau, Bearshare,
E-Donkey that allows users to download files from other users. Normally
used for sharing (illegally) copy righted music, software and movies. |
| Podcast: A series of
digital-media files which are distributed over the
Internet using
syndication
feeds
for playback on
portable media players and
computers |
| Poptropica:
A web site that is a part of the FunBrain site that is mostly for games.
There is a connection that can be made there between players. |
| Profile: A section in a IM application, forum, social network where
more information is provided about the user. |
| Rant: To talk or "blog" about a topic in a passionate manner. |
| Wi-Fi: Wireless Internet. Requires a router that has wireless
capabilities. |
| Social Networking: A network of websites with a blogging function
that has a social component to it where there are friends lists or
buddies lists. |
| Spyware/Adware: Any software that gets installed without the user's
permission. It can log websites visited and relay e-mail addresses
stored on your computer to third parties. This can slow down the
computer and lead to excessive pop-up ads as well as generate spam. |
| Webkins:
A website and a stuffed animal. The stuffed animals are sold with
passwords that allow access to the web site where usually children can
play games and design a world for their stuffed animal. Some chatting
can take place there. |
| World Wide Web: A system of interlinked
hypertext documents accessed via the
Internet. It is commonly shortened to the Web. |
